Cade Tree- Juniperus oxycedrus in southern France- cited from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juniperus_oxycedrus
Many African American women are using M-T-G to stimulate and increase their hair growth. However, many of them, despite the increased length, are deterred or turned off by the unpleasant odor of the grimy, yellow oil. It reminisces smoked bacon and well ... it just smells kind of bad. Many ladies were supposing the repulsive scent to be the prominent ingredient: sulfur. And while sulfur does have a slight foul odor, the conspicuous culprit is the last ingredient- the unassuming cade oil.
Cade oil has been used for centuries to stimulate and increase hair growth. Madame C.J. Walker included it along with sulfur among other ingredients in her "Wonderful Hair Grower" assumable for its notable hair growing properties. but Cade oil does have an undeniable odor.
And this odor just docent go away. It seeps in the scalp and remains there even after multiple washings. It is smothered on combs, brushes, and other accessories even after washing them too. so, it is kind of annoying to be walking around smelling like moisturized smoked bacon.
I have tried M-T-G myself and have experienced the smell along with other effects. I have also experienced other damaging effects from this product and other products containing sulfur. And I know its the sulfur because I purchased other products(Madame Walker's Hair and Scalp Preparation)  containing sulfur, and I purchased pure, precipitated sulfur, mixed my own sulfur oil, and had the same damaging effects.
M-T-G will grow your hair but it will break it twice as fast. I think that it makes your hair so strong-strong to the point of brittle, stiff strong. so that it just pops, snaps, and breaks like crazy! Even when I apply the oil only to my hair, it still snaps off!
So, I stopped using M-T-G, Madame Walker's Hair and Scalp Preparation, and homemade sulfur products and am using another product and doing some thing that are growing my hair!
Note: I am not telling anyone to stop using any of these sulfur containing products, I am only sharing my personal experience. I know a lot of people are having wonderful results using these products, and if you are, by all means continue. My hair is fine and breaks easily so these don't work for me.
On my next post I will tell what I am using and doing to grow my hair! See you soon!
